| Tackling bid-riggers
The Attorney General cracked down on businesses
that conspired to rig bids for state contracts working on underground
storage tanks. Settlements were reached with firms that admitted their
wrongdoing while the court has ordered the other defendants to pay for
conspiring to cheat taxpayers.
Rooting out Medicaid fraud
The Attorney General’s Medicaid fraud investigators have set a new
record for criminal convictions and money recovered in 2003. The Medicaid fraud
unit won 31 criminal convictions and 22 civil settlements, and recovered more
than $14 million from Medicaid abusers. The work stops big drug companies and
health care providers from bilking the system, which saves money for taxpayers
and provides better care for the elderly.
