Help Consumers
The Attorney General is the
people’s advocate, and that means keeping North Carolina
residents safe from scam artists who trick people out of their money
and their livelihoods.
Fair treatment for patients: Roy Cooper's team of health care insurance experts will work to get fair coverage and good care for patients who need help.
Stop predatory lending: Roy Cooper will continue his work to stop
mortgage lenders from robbing homeowners of equity in North Carolina,
and to fight national efforts to weaken the rules. As a senator he
wrote the law, and as Attorney General he is enforcing it. He will
ensure that lenders are forbidden from charging excessive fees and
rates.
Guard against identity theft: Roy Cooper will
continue to lead North Carolina’s fight against identity
theft by educating consumers, urging businesses to protect
customers’ personal information, and helping law enforcement
track thieves. The Federal Trade Commission said Cooper’s efforts
are a model for the nation.
Stop fly-by-night operations: Businesses that
promise everything and deliver nothing through illegitimate
sweepstakes, falsely inflated investment returns and other schemes
threaten unsuspecting consumers, especially senior citizens. Roy Cooper
will fight these scam artists and restore confidence in legitimate
firms that follow the rules.
Hang up on telemarketers: Some telemarketers
continue to break the Do Not Call rules, and worse, some con artists
use telemarketing to trick seniors and unsuspecting homeowners into
high-stakes games that only the telemarketer wins. Cooper and his team
of fraud-stoppers will work to keep telemarketers from calling, and to
return money to those caught by scams.
