New technology
As information becomes more easily accessible through the Internet and e-mail, the safeguards that once protected us from unwanted information arenŐt working anymore. New problems need new solutions, and Roy Cooper will work to keep law enforcers ahead of predators who use new technology to prey on North Carolinians.
Protection from pornography: Roy Cooper believes that parents should be able to shield their families from unwanted solicitations and pornography at home, at school and at play. That means better tools to filter unwanted material on the internet and strong safeguards to keep private information private.
New tools to fight new crimes: Law enforcers and prosecutors are finding that criminals are using increasingly sophisticated ways to steal from unsuspecting victims. Roy Cooper supports arming justice officials with the best tools available to combat identity theft, credit card fraud and other crimes. He also will push to get technology experts to help investigators.
Expert help to track criminals: With the advent of new technology, local and state authorities are finding new kinds of evidence to solve cases like murder and sex crimes, such as e-mails, electronic postings, and chat room discussions. Roy Cooper believes law enforcers need expert help getting those clues so they can bring criminals to justice. He will work to see that the SBI can provide this help.
