Safe Schools
Get weapons out of schools: Students must feel safe to learn and teachers must feel safe to teach in North Carolina classrooms. The number of weapons in schools has increased steadily. Roy Cooper believes we need more Student Resource Officers, more authority for educators and principals, and tougher penalties for young people who break the rules.
Keep troubled students from turning to crime: Students who have been suspended or expelled must be stopped from terrorizing the community. Roy Cooper will work to keep these students out of trouble and off the streets by pushing for after-school initiatives and other community-based solutions.
