Roy Cooper: Best Bet for Governor
The Pilot News
Depending on which recent survey you look at, Democratic challenger Roy Cooper is ahead of Republican Gov. Pat McCrory by as many as nine points — at a time when Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump seem in a dead heat in our state.
Clearly, there is much Tar Heel dissatisfaction out there with McCrory’s performance in office. We think those misgivings are justified, which is why we strongly recommend the election of Cooper on Nov. 8.
McCrory’s first (and, we hope, his last) four-year term has been problematic in several ways. And in too many cases, the troubles have clearly arisen from a failure on the part of the governor to show the kind of personal leadership ability that the chief executive officer of a state should display.
